Graham’s Caves for the first time in the Top 50 World’s Best Vineyards
08/08/2023Once again, Symington Family Estates sees one of its properties distinguished in the Top 50 of the World’s Best Vineyards awards. The complete ranking, which highlights the best wine tourism experiences across the globe, was announced last week in Rioja – Spain’s renowned wine region –, and Graham’s cellars – owned by the Symington family – made the list for the first time. The organization highlights that «for those interested in experiencing the magnificence of the Douro Valley and its wines, Graham’s cellars offer an unforgettable presentation that will make anyone fall in love with this magical destination».
Quinta do Bomfim – owned by Symington for five generations, located in Pinhão – had already been part of the Top 50 World’s Best Vineyards in 2019, 2021 and in 2022, the year it ranked 37th. The highlight of the Graham’s cellars in the 2023 edition thus marks the fourth distinction awarded to a space belonging to the Symington family by the jury of the World’s Best Vineyards ranking, which annually elects the most interesting wineries to visit, taste wines and discover more about their production process. Symington Visitor Center ranked 40th.
It was 10 years ago that Graham’s reopened to the public after a significant renovation. Over the last decade – a period in which it was visited by more than 225 nationalities – the space has reinforced its position as a reference in the wine tourism sector in Portugal, providing visitors with the possibility of discovering the history of the Douro wine region, while appreciating Symington family wines and discover the methods used in their production.
This year also marks a decade since the inauguration of Vinum at Graham’s restaurant & wine bar, located in the cellars, which has been recognized for the homage paid to the gastronomy of the North of Portugal. Lovers of wine and traditional dishes from northern cuisine will thus be able to combine the best of both worlds and book a gastronomic experience that includes a guided tour of the cellars and a meal at the Vinum restaurant. The recent expansion of the terrace – a process that took into account the history and design of the building – represents new options for visitors, who will have the possibility of enjoying excellent wine and proposals prepared with local ingredients, with the Douro river and the D. Luís I bridge in the background.
