Dão is the stage of the Sixth Winetourism Regional Forum

The Portuguese Association of Winetourism (APENO) and Ageas Seguros, in partnership with National Regional Vitivinic Commissions (CVR), continue their walk for the wine tourism, opening the doors to the economic agents of the various Portuguese wine regions to debate the problems. and solutions in a sector that grows from year to year at national level. It is the regional winery forums that have traveled in various parts of the country. After the first five and successful 2022 forums that took place in the Lisbon region, the Tagus region, the Setúbal region, the Alentejo region and the Algarve region, March 2023 is the month of the Dão Regional Forum. It is already on March 8, at the Dão Wine Solar, in Fontelo.

Decentralizing has been the keyword of APENO and AGEAS SEGUROS to do more and better for wine tourism in Portugal. Therefore, the mission, this time, is to open doors to debate cycles, where the focus is to discuss the strengths and weaknesses of national wine tourism, in order to find solutions to grow even more the sector, but even more to give in Portuguese territory.
As the first national association dedicated exclusively to the sector, APENO, in partnership with Ageas Seguros, thus invites the economic agents of the various national wine regions to discuss wine tourism in the same stage, in sessions open to the general public. The Appeal will travel from land to land to hear the main problems of the various regions and to find, together, new approaches to make the best wine tourism.

We want to reinforce our positioning in the wine tourism sector, along with these professionals, contributing to a safer and sustainable sector. It is our commitment to be present in the lives of companies in a relevant, close and emotional way, ”says Gustavo Barreto, a member of the Ageas Portugal Group Executive Committee.

Objective: Create solid bases for wine tourism
«APENO – PORTUGUESE WINETURISM ASSOCIATION was born only two years ago but already gathers among its associates the best players of winetourism at national level, and we continue to grow every day. There is a lot of talk about wine tourism, but no one has no definitions or numbers that help understand it, among other issues that have to be debated. And, of course, the Appeal has been focused on resolving these issues and creating solid work bases so that Portugal is considered a region of reference in world -level wine tourism, ”says Maria João de Almeida, the president of APENO.
“Obviously, this also goes through the attention that we want to give each of the national regions, where we will identify and debate the problems existing in wine tourism, try to present solutions and make known the work we have done since we were born. In these sessions, which we do in conjunction with Ageas Seguros, our partner company, and with the CVRs of each region, we will still have a training session related to risk prevention and management as a swivel efficiency, as well as a round table that will bring together economic agents with space for debate. I’m sure the result will be very positive, ”says Maria João de Almeida.
The sixth of these regional forums is thus in the Dão region, on March 8, at 2:30 pm, at the Dão Wine Solar, in Fontelo.
“The wine tourism is essentially a discovery of vineyards and, in this plan, give it with its centenary history has much to show,” as Arlindo Cunha, president of the Dão CVR. It is a work session where the Dão region will be discussed, with the following program:

• 17h00 – Debate: Reflections of wine tourism: the needs of the sector – a brief conversation about the main challenges of the region for wine tourism in the Dão region.

Aveleda and Herdade do Rocim join the Humanwinety project

Humanwinety, a company that, for about four months, has been promoting the integration of individuals with physical or intellectual disabilities, and other minorities, in the wine and hotel sectors, has just added two important Portuguese producers to its list of partners. At stake are Herdade do Rocim, a property located between Vidigueira and Cuba, in Baixo Alentejo, and Aveleda, in the north of the country, specifically in the city of Penafiel. But, the innovations of the project headed by winemaker Bento Amaral and wine consultant Cláudio Martins do not stop here. With a humanitarian nature sealed in its genetic code, Humanwinety is in charge of organizing an auction and solidarity dinner, to be held at the end of January 2023, in Lisbon, the proceeds of which will revert, in part, to Cáritas.

Empowering individuals who, for some reason and/or moment in their lives, have become more vulnerable, experiencing difficulties in their training or at a key time of employability, is the main mission of Humanwinety, which, on a daily basis, fights for inclusive recruitment in the labor market and so that employers and candidates are aware of the many benefits that come with these hires.

Wine auction and solidarity dinner

The initiative will bring together a wide range of bottles of excellent quality. Among the main highlights are three bottles of Maria Teresa from 2015, 2016 and 2017 and a 3l bottle of Castro superior 2018, from Quinta do Crasto, and two ABF 1888 bottles, from Vallado. The partner, Aveleda, SA, will offer a 3-liter bottle of Quinta Vale D. Maria Douro Red 2013 and a 1.5-liter bottle of Manoel Pedro Guedes Vinho Verde White 2020. Herdade do Rocim will have a Rocim Magnum at auction Grande Reserva Red 2019.

Adega Mayor presents two new single varietals

Merlot and Moscatel Galego Roxo bring two new melodies to the range of single varieties. In the year in which it celebrates its 15th anniversary, Adega Mayor continues to innovate. This time, in the expansion of its range of single variety wines, with the launch of Adega Mayor Merlot and Adega Mayor Moscatel Galego Roxo, two grape varieties from different origins (France and Península de Setúbal) that now reach the market through the expression of the Alentejo terroir .

And because there are melodies that, like some musical instruments, deserve to be heard (and tasted) solo, Merlot and Moscatel Roxo, are represented by two musical instruments that make up the orchestra Mayor.

Adega Mayor Merlot 2020 is a red wine from Alentejo, whose grape variety is found in Monte da Pina, near the Caia dam. Delicate, versatile and with a ruby colour, it is aromatically fresh and fragrant, with notes of fresh grass, flowers and spice. Characteristics that elegantly involve ripe red fruit, plums and raspberries in jam. On the palate, it has a delicate texture with fine tannins, refreshing acidity and a full flavored, long and persistent finish.

From a careful selection, this red fermented at a controlled temperature in a French oak vat. After bottling, it has rested in the bottle until now.

It proves to be an excellent company to harmonize with Italian dishes, sautéed mushrooms, braised poultry dishes and dishes with marked spices.

Adega Mayor Moscatel Galego Roxo 2021 is an “Alentejano” wine with a greenish-yellow color and a clear and bright appearance. In a first impression, it maintains the identity of the variety – coming from the Setúbal Peninsula – but it gradually reveals the characteristics acquired by contact with the soils of Herdade das Argamassas. It suggests a perfumed floral, delicate notes of rose wrapped in a sweet background of lychee and fresh grape. The mouth maintains the speech of the nose, revealing an intense flavor, freshness and very good acidity. At the table, it goes perfectly with exotic dishes, such as sushi or fusion cuisine.

Casal Garcia launches second edition of Alegria Sessions

After the success of the first edition, Casal Garcia continues to bring music to the Portuguese and returns with ‘The Alegria Sessions’, challenging rising artists to reinterpret melancholy songs. Christmas arrives at Quinta do Sanguinhal with an intimate Christmas lunch and concert

To celebrate Christmas, Companhia Agrícola do Sanguinhal reserved the date of December 17th for lunch with an intimate Christmas concert, which starts at 1:30 pm, at the emblematic Casa Museu Abel Pereira da Fonseca. Turismo de Lisboa releases video about the Wine Route

The Lisbon Tourism Association (ATL) makes known the Wine Route with a video that suggests the places not to be missed and the experiences to have to toast to life between flavours, stories and traditions. This video will be released in foreign markets and is available on the website www.visitlisboa.com, in Portuguese, English, French, Italian, Spanish and German.

 The Museu do Vinho e da Vinha, in Bucelas, is also one of the suggested places for a journey through the cultural heritage of the second oldest wine region in Portugal, discovering the evolution of ways of working in the vineyard and wine production, and tasting some of the best wines in the country. Further north, the suggestion goes through the countryside where we find Quinta de Sant’Ana, with a strong commitment to the quality of its award-winning wines. 

 To the south of the Tagus, there is the Mother House of the Setúbal Peninsula Wine Route, one of the best known nationally. Here, visitors can find several footpaths that take in the wine cellars, vineyards and wines of the region. Recommendations also include Quinta da Bacalhôa and Casa Museu José Maria da Fonseca, great options for tasting the variety of wines produced there. Casa da Baía in Setúbal is also one of the recommended places to discover (and taste) the history and wine culture of the region and the wine produced by the different wineries on the peninsula. 

 The entire region is marked by a unique production resulting from the fertile soil, the winds and seas, the plains and mountains and the climate, which intersect here. Unique features and settings, with centuries of culture and winemaking techniques, and a landscape that allows for multiple looks and approaches, and that invites everyone to discover and taste the best that Lisbon has to offer.
