Vinha Mãe returns at Christmas time

21/12/2024

The iconic Chocapalha Vinha Mãe 2019 is back, reaffirming its position as one of the great references of Quinta de Chocapalha, in Alenquer. Named ‘Vinha Mãe’ for being the origin of everything that came after, this wine pays homage to the first plot of vines planted by the parents of Andrea and Sandra Tavares da Silva, the second generation to lead the estate. The debut of this reference dates back to the year 2000, and now, with the 2019 vintage, the legacy continues.

This unique wine is the result of a carefully crafted blend of three grape varieties: Syrah, Touriga Nacional and Tinta Roriz. The grapes come from 35-year-old vines cultivated in a bilateral cordon system. After harvesting and destemming, the grapes undergo pre-fermentation maceration at low temperatures for eight hours. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in lagares over eight days, followed by malolactic fermentation and ageing for 22 months in French oak barrels.

Chocapalha Vinha Mãe 2019 has an intense, opaque colour and rich aromas of forest fruits, black cherry and spices. In the mouth, it reveals a remarkable concentration, combined with an elegance that culminates in a long and persistent finish. With the oenological signature of Sandra Tavares da Silva and Miguel Cavaco, this wine is the ultimate expression of the connection between the land and human dedication.

Available in selected wine shops and on restaurant menus, Vinha Mãe 2019 keeps alive the tradition and excellence that define Quinta de Chocapalha and is a celebration of the history and future of this emblematic estate.
